Post-exam: Future options

It has been slightly strange in Media for the last couple of weeks with the course completed but lessons continuing.

It's been brilliant to see some absolutely superb TV drama trailers put together which demonstrate the amazing editing skills you've developed this year. Hopefully you're now at the stage where you've exported your GHS TV drama trailer or are very close to finishing.

Once you've completed the trailer (and any additional extensions your teacher may have given you) then you should work on the following research project planning your future options.

Post-16 planning

In a year's time, you'll have finished your GCSEs - it's an amazing thought! The final assembly and Prom will have come and gone and you'll be waiting for those results to arrive on Thursday 20 August, 2020. But what will you do after that? These final Media lessons before we finish Year 10 are a great opportunity to look at what you could be doing in September next year.

Greenford options

For the vast majority of students, we obviously hope you'll stay here and continue your post-16 studies in Greenford's sixth form. But what will you study and what grades will you need to get a place on the course? Visit the Post-16 courses page of our Greenford website to look through options and entry requirements.

Apprenticeships and other options

Visit the Careers guidance page on our website to research jobs and find links to other services that offer guidance on next steps.

Looking beyond

It seems strange to say this while still in Year 10, but when you start picking your A Levels you need to have half an eye on what you may go on to do after leaving school. If you want to study something specific at university, make sure you take post-16 qualifications that will facilitate that. This UCAS introduction to why you should study at university is a good place to start.

Future options: task

Write a one-page plan on Microsoft Word for the next five years of your life. This can take many forms and offer as much detail as you like but must include the following:

  1. The grades you hope/expect to achieve in your GCSEs next year (and this year in Media!)
  2. Your plans for post-16 - A levels, college, apprenticeships etc.
  3. The entry requirements for your post-16 option
  4. Whether you plan to go to university (and if so what you might study)
  5. Where you see yourself once your education is complete (either at 18 or after graduating from university)

Once this is complete, email it to your Media teacher and form tutor.

NCS: The Challenge

If you're wondering what NCS and The Challenge is, you can find out more information on their website here. We've had some excellent reports on NCS from Greenford students that have done it in the past.

Good luck!
